What if I became an influencer?

Many claim to be influencers without actually being one. Our judgment can easily be distorted by analyzing an account too quickly. Here is some data to rely on:
– The name of the followers: remembering, however, that it is not extremely revealing. Today there are many simple solutions to artificially grow an account or even to get likes and comments.

First of all there is the mass following. Basically the technique is to follow to be followed. We’ve all done it and it’s a way like any other to get noticed, to stand out in the crowd of accounts. In the case of mass following, it is more pernicious. We will follow with all our might, then once the person follows us, we will no longer follow them! The only goal is to maintain a good following/follower ratio.

This produces a heterogeneous community, with no real interest other than making money. It is very likely that there will be very little interaction between the account and its followers.

Second possibility to inflate the numbers, thebuy followers. We are here in the worst of the worst, in the totally useless. In fact, you will be able to explode your community with a few euros and with a few mouse clicks. Obviously the prices are very low, these are not real accounts, but just bots that have no publications under their belt, are often hosted all over the world, have no profile photo, a totally fake bio and above all they will never, ever interact with you. Basically it’s right perfect for tickling your ego when you present your account, but nothing else.

– The follower/following ratio: It can be an indicator of quality. If the number of registrations is greater than the number of subscribers, you are definitely not dealing with an influencer, but with someone who follows for the sake of being followed. If the two are very close to each other, it could also be that the person follows everyone who follows them. I once tended to do it, out of politeness, out of kindness. I followed everyone who followed me. The problem is that waking up becomes impossible. I never had the courage to clean up my community.

– The quality of the community: This is ultimately one of the elements that should interest you the most. The community must however reflect the themes of the story as much as possible. So how do you analyze it, because at first glance nothing looks more like a Twitter account than another Twitter account. I use various tools, in particular commun.it, but to analyze an account it is above all klear.com that catches my attention. It gives you an idea of the involvement of a community, the influencer’s involvement, the themes of their audience, their countries of origin (very important for revealing fake accounts) and other influencers on the same topic.

– the age of the account : a recent account with 35,000 followers is definitely fake… The most followed accounts are a bit old. In exchange we will find on accounts that have existed for several years a large number of followers who are no longer active, nothing more normal.

– the index of real life : Less palpable or analyzable through social networks, but do we travel to see or hear it? Is he known for other media, has he written a book for example? All this gives even more weight to the influencer.

“Notoriety is when your presence is noticed, fame is when your absence is noticed” George Wolinski.

I would add that great notoriety is not a guarantee of a good brand image! Notoriety boils down to “ How many know me «. It is the ability of consumers or Internet users to identify a brand, logo, name, profile photo, etc. You can have an extremely popular account, thousands of followers, and have a disappointing brand image.

Become an influencer?

To influence influencers ? And yes, it’s a bit like a snake chasing its own tail! To be considered by an influencer it may be necessary to attract their attention and pique their curiosity! For this you will definitely also have to enter a content strategy For example.

But this isn’t just interesting for brands! Are you looking for work? Do you have the time and skills? Create a blog, get noticed, show your experience ! Make companies want to approach you, collaborate with you!

Are you a student? Start now ! The most influential accounts are those that are a few years old. You may also want to adopt good habits from a young age.

Do you have to be in digital or communications/marketing to publish? NO! Talk about your customers, share your experience, talk a little less about yourself and let the sauce thicken.

How to proceed?

– Storytelling and quality content:

Share your journey, tell your story, share your experience and bring interesting topics about your business.

– Involve your community

Don’t just share your content, create a connection with those who follow you.

– Don’t despise small beginnings!

You will not achieve great things in a short time. A community, reputation and notoriety are built. Be positive about your early results.

– Don’t succumb to the structures mentioned above!

Hacking culture is trendy in the digital world and that’s a good thing. We must not hesitate to deviate from customs and find new ways of doing things. However, the few structures we talked about above (continuously mass following and buying followers) should be avoided if you care about your online reputation.
