What is the 110% Super Bonus?
The 110% Superbonus, or even just «110% Bonus», is undoubtedly one of the most revolutionary and complex relief measures in Italian history. This is a measure aimed at facilitating the renovation of private buildings in compliance with certain criteria that support energy efficiency, the reduction of seismic risk and the facilitation of the use of sustainable and renewable energy.
The goal? Immediately reimburse any taxpayer for what they have spent, in respect of specific interventions in the field of energy efficiency (Ecobonus), seismic risk reduction (Sismabonus), installation of photovoltaic systems and infrastructure for charging electric vehicles in buildings (columns).
Superbonus 110%: extension until 2023
To be honest, the maximum limit for requesting benefits had already been extended a few months ago with the Relaunch Decree 2021. The Revenue Agency website spoke clearly: given the success, the 110% Superbonus would have referred to all the «expenses incurred from 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2022, for specific interventions in the field of energy efficiency and anti-seismic interventions.«
Finally, after months of discussion, and taking into account the data relating to its application in 2021, the long-awaited new extension seems to have finally arrived. The official confirmation was given by Mario Draghi himself, supported by Claudio Durigon, undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance: the 110% Superbonus has been officially extended until 2023.
Not only that, Draghi also confirmed that for 2022 it will still be possible to continue to request deductions through the same 3 options already provided: Irpef deduction, invoice discount and credit transfer.
Superbonus 110%: the new deadlines
The new deadlines for requesting the 110% Superbonus benefits are therefore:
- until December 31, 2022 for condominium buildings (condominiums);
- until 30 June 2022, for buildings that have a single owner and consist of 2 to a maximum of 4 real estate unitswith the possibility of moving the deadline to 31 December 2022, if 60% of the works have already been completed by the end of June;
- until June 30, 2022, for single-family buildings;
- until 30 June 2023 for public housing institutes (IACP)therefore there will also be the possibility of postponing the deadline to the end of the year (31 December 2023) if at least 60% of the planned building interventions have been carried out by the deadline set in June.
Superbonus 110%: the unique CILA-Superbonus model
In light of the favor encountered by the many who have requested the tax break, especially in recent times, the innovations introduced by Draghi also aim to simplify access to the deduction. If before the documentation to access the bonus was, in true Italian style, incomprehensible to say the least, through the Simplifications Decreeprecisely, the Ministry of Public Administration has announced the introduction of CILA-Superbonusthat is, a unique model (clearly simplified) valid for works throughout the national territory which excludes only the demolition and reconstruction of buildings.
Not just superb 110%
Alongside the extension of the timing of the 110% Superbonus, the latest measures regarding tax breaks have also included support for new sectors affected by the crisis, from the wedding industry (which remained blocked for a long time during the pandemic period) to the catering sector, without forgetting schools and all VAT registered workers.
Specifically in the construction sector, however, new funds have been introduced dedicated to the restoration of artistic and/or historic buildings, as well as new funds for school buildings.
Not all is lost, therefore, even for those who have not yet had time to request their relief. Following this update, the critical date for anyone wishing to access the 110% bonus deduction is no longer 2022, but 2023 (at least for some specific categories of properties). Although, given the latest developments, it is legitimate to think that this will certainly not be the last extension we will hear about.
