How do I choose a hard disk for the laptop

The hard drive is a short-term component, typically functioning for up to five years in modern systems. However, hard drives in laptops tend to have an even shorter lifespan. This is likely because laptops are frequently transported, subjecting the hard drive to micro-damage over time. Replacing a laptop’s hard drive is a common issue many users encounter. In this article, we will discuss how to select a suitable replacement hard drive for your laptop when the old one has stopped working.

Main features in choosing the hard drive for laptop

Choose the hard disk for the laptop first you should consider three important features. These are: diameter, connection and thick interface. If you ignore these features, you could buy a hard drive, which will not be installed in the laptop.

Diameter

Only 2.5 -inch rigid discs are used in laptops. By choosing a hard drive for the laptop, the first thing you need to do is eliminate the 3.5 -inch diameter rigid discs.

Difference in the diameter between the 2.5 and 3.5 inches hard drive

The rigid 3.5 -inch thumb discs are used for desktop computers, servers and other devices. There are also 1.8 -inch rigid discs for MP3 readers (such as Apple iPod), but practically never for laptops.

Connection interface

The next feature, which should be taken into consideration in choosing the hard drive for laptop is the connection interface. In the laptops, the SATA interface is used. And for sale you can find rigid discs with a diameter of 2.5 inches with SATA interface, as well as with SAS (SCSI). Sas (SCSI) rigid discs are used on servers and do not adapt to laptops.

The thickness of the hard drive

Important strengths during the choice of the hard drive to pay attention to the thickness. Modern 2.5 -inch rigid discs can be different in the thickness. Nowadays, hard records are used with a thickness of 15 mm, 9.5 mm and 7 mm. In fact, there are other dimensions, only on sale I don’t think you will be able to find them.

If you buy a larger hard drive, it simply does not adapt to the laptop. Most likely a thinner model will be able to install, except for the fact that it will not have a fixed position and in the end it will lead to a quick failure. In other words, for the beginning you check what the hard drive must be in your laptop, so go to choose the right model for you.

Secondary features of the Laptop hard disk

Other characteristics of the hard drive can be considered secondary. Because there are no fundamental requirements here and the entire choice depends on the user’s needs.

Rotation speed

Modern rigid laptop discopts can have a speed of 5400 or 7200 rotations per minute. There are also rigid discs with a rotation of 10000 minutes, which are used on the servers. Only you will not be able to install them in your laptop, because they have the SAS (SCSI) interface. Therefore, choosing hard -laptop disk you have two options: rotations 5400 or 7200 per minute.

The difference between 5400 and 7200 rotations per minute consists of working, noise and price speeds. The 7200 rigid discs at 7200 speeds are faster, produce a higher noise and, as a rule, they are more expensive. The choice is quite simple. If you want a maximum speed, choose a hard drive at a speed of 7200 rotations per minute. If you want to save money or you want the laptop to produce the least possible noise, choose the hard drive at a speed of 5400 wheel per minute.

Memory cache

The memory of the cache is a small space, used in the hard drive to store the data used. In the case of the access following the same data, the hard drive will read them from the cache. Reading the cache memory is much faster, so the greater the cache, the hard drive will work faster.

capacity

And of course let’s not forget the ability of the hard drive. And here everything is quite simple. The greater the ability, the greater the price. You want to keep more data on the hard drive: choose a higher capacity hard drive.
