The issue of corporate cybersecurity is more urgent than ever. The number of cyber attacks in fact it grows year after year and companies, especially European ones, are slow to notice the violations suffered before remedying them.
To avoid falling prey to hackers and suffering potentially devastating attacks, companies must first start with one basic rule: create strong passwords.
It may seem trivial, but it is not. Just think of the fact that in 2017 the most used access key was «123456», with the word «password» used just as a password in second place.
So, here are 5 tips for creating a hacker-proof password:
- Different password for United States: PIt may seem trivial but how many of us use the same password for several logins so as not to forget it? Or for convenience? Choosing different passwords for different accounts makes life more difficult for hackers and in any case allows you, if one of your accounts is hacked, that not all your systems are compromised.
- Change password periodically: by doing so, the hacker will not have time to decrypt the previous one as we have already inserted the next one. In conclusion, the objective that must always be kept in mind when creating a password is to increase the randomness in the relationship between the words we choose, making it unpredictable: in this way, in fact, deciphering the sequence can be difficult even for the most experienced hacker.
- Follow the passphrase logic: If unpredictability is a prerequisite when creating a password, we must also consider the fact that it must be remembered. This is where passphrases come into play: sets of words that are transformed into alphanumeric strings. Let’s take an example: the sentence “Last night I went to sleep at 9” transformed according to the passphrase logic becomes “IsSaAdA9”. This keyword is unpredictable, combines letters and numbers, uppercase and lowercase, and at the same time is not difficult to memorize.
- Write the password backwards: another technique to follow is to write a sentence – always unpredictable and without logical links connecting it to the account – in reverse, preferably long. For example, the phrase “I would like to live in Australia” becomes “ailartsuAnIereviVierroV”. If we add special characters, numbers and capital letters to this key, we will strengthen its inviolability.
- Use the padding technique: managing a secure password following the padding technique means adding – literally padding – a sentence with repeated symbols both at the beginning and at the end. A keyword like “oggihomessolamagliettaverde” with the paddig becomes: “oggihomessolamagliettaverde555555”, for example.
If you haven’t done it yet, don’t wait! Hurry to change your passwords trying to follow these simple rules.
